Dear Friend of Fair Housing:
I personally know how critical the services provided by Long Island Housing Services (LIHS) are. My husband, Robert, neighbor Esther (though both since deceased) and I—all chronically disabled and mobility impaired — faced daily horrific obstacles in getting into our housing units or accessing mail at our senior condo community. We contacted LIHS seeking their intervention. Thanks to their amazing advocacy and enforcement services, we were able to fully access and enjoy our housing.
I believe you and I have something important in common! You are interested in helping to improve the life of people and conditions of Long Island and that is my passion as well. Long Island Housing Services has worked hard since 1969 to overcome discriminatory housing policies and practices, assist at-risk homeowners to avoid foreclosure, and support tenants in understanding and asserting their rights.
On October 3rd, Long Island Housing Services will hold a Gala event at Villa Lombardi’s to highlight the 50th anniversary year of the Congressional passage of the Fair Housing Act (Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968) with a special event. We will be honoring Michelle Santantonio, LIHS’ Executive Director Emeritus, and other long-time Fair Housing heroes. Michelle devoted 27 years to furthering the work of LIHS, and served as the Executive Director since June 1999. Please help us to honor this special anniversary, LIHS, Michelle and other civil rights veterans’ contributions to ending discrimination.
With your help, we can continue to eliminate illegal housing discrimination and promote decent and affordable housing through advocacy and education locally on Long Island. Thank you for your consideration and we look forward to speaking with you. Purchase Sponsorship
