Mastic Beach settles Racial Housing Discrimination suit with LIHS

The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law announced today a major settlement in the case of Long Island Housing Services, Inc. v. Village of Mastic Beach (EDNY). This case against the Village of Mastic Beach, New York and Timothy Brojer, the former Village Administrator of Mastic Beach, challenged code enforcement actions of the defendants that were alleged to discriminatorily target African American renters and their landlords in violation of their constitutional rights. LIHS joins Commitment to Consumer Protections for New Yorkers

New Yorkers for Responsible Lending (NYRL), a statewide coalition of more than 180 consumer protection and fair lending groups, reaffirmed its commitment to the goal of financial justice for all New Yorkers and pledged to be a “firewall” against any federal backsliding on consumer financial protection, fair lending and marketplace oversight under the Trump administration.
