Meet Nicholas. When hard times hit his family, he called Long Island Housing Services.
Nicholas needed help
when his family’s home fell into foreclosure.
In 2014, Nicholas and his family faced a tough situation when a sudden loss of income caused them to default on their mortgage. With debt building up and a baby on the way, Nicholas needed to find help to keep his family in their home.
Fortunately, they found Long Island Housing Services.
You probably know that Long Island Housing Services (LIHS) offers education and advocacy to promote fair and equitable housing. But with our Foreclosure Prevention Program, we also give struggling Long Island homeowners a fair chance to stay in their homes. Our housing counselors and attorneys keep homeowners informed of their options, assist them in applying for mortgage modifications, accompany them to settlement conferences, and more.
With help from LIHS, Nicholas and his family won the long battle for their home. More than three years after their troubles began, Nicholas signed a permanent mortgage modification last month. With past debts resolved and a more affordable monthly payment, the family can finally move forward with confidence.
